Yellow Pine sits deep in the Payette and Boise National Forests, hours from the nearest hospital and reachable only by seasonal, unpaved roads. Our Chamber exists to make sure that remoteness is a source of character, not a source of risk. This platform outlines the three priorities guiding our work on behalf of residents, seasonal families, outfitters, miners, and the small businesses that keep this community alive.
1. Safe Rural Access
• Advocate with the other local organizations to Valley County and the U.S. Forest Service for consistent grading, culvert maintenance, and snow-plow scheduling on South Fork & Warm Lake Road..
• Advocate with the other local organizations for reliable road-condition reporting and a shared community alert system for washouts, wildfire closures, and early snow events.
• Support with the other local organizations improved signage, pullouts, and emergency communication points along the primary access corridors used by residents, freight, companies and emergency responders.
• Coordinate with regional aviation and backcountry airstrip operators to preserve air access as a backup lifeline when roads are impassable.
• Work toward expanded satellite and cellular coverage so residents and visitors can call for help when it matters most.
2. Rural Health
• Champion telehealth and remote patient monitoring partnerships so residents can access primary and chronic care without a multi-hour drive.
• Support recurring visiting-provider clinics (medical, dental, and behavioral health) held locally on a predictable schedule.
• Advocate for senior and disability-friendly health resources so long-time residents can safely age in place.
3. Economic Development
• Promote Yellow Pine as a destination for backcountry recreation, outfitting, and heritage tourism, anchored by events like the Yellow Pine Harmonica Festival.
• Support small business development: lodging, guiding, retail, and trades, through shared marketing and a Chamber business directory.
• Pursue rural broadband and reliable power infrastructure as the foundation for remote work, e-commerce, and visitor services.
• Work with state and federal partners on responsible mining, forestry, and public-lands recreation policy that respects both livelihoods and the surrounding wilderness.
• Seek grant funding (USDA Rural Development, Idaho Dept. of Commerce, EDA) for infrastructure and workforce projects benefiting the greater Yellow Pine area.
